Summertime Sadness

I’m in denial that it’s getting cold out. Yesterday, it was 25 degrees outside and there I was, standing outside in a t-shirt, sweats, and my Nike slides, trying to get my cat out of a bush. I miss the summer heat.

I like the winter, don’t get me wrong. The snow is beautiful and I love hot chocolate. But I don’t like the cold. I get cold very easily and I don’t like that. I haven’t been able to feel my fingers all morning. It’s freezing in my room. Perfect. Can I go South with the geese?

It’s days like this when I really miss summer. I miss swimming at the lake, getting ice cream late at night with old friends, tanning on my trampoline, driving around with all the windows down while blaring music. I’m depressed.

Fall is pretty much over now. Almost all the trees have lost their leaves, it’s getting below freezing at night, and I’m cold. Depressing. At least there’s football to look forward to. Go Seahawks!

Soon it’ll be spring once again and everything will slowly start to thaw out. The million shades of green will come back and so will all the animals. I’ll be warm again and the happiness will return. For now, I’ll be in my room under 20 blankets, eating thousands of chicken nuggets with my space heater on, and watching SpongeBob. Oh, my cat will be there too. Can’t forget about him.

Snow

Snow is a big part of the end of the year here. It signifies the beginning of winter, saying a final goodbye to the warm weather of the summer and saying hello to a few months of brutally cold weather. Christmas is on it’s way. Not to mention it gets dark super early now. Then here comes the seasonal depression. I’ll save that for a later post.

The first snow has always given me a sense of happiness. Seeing the first flurries of snow fall from the sky makes me want to run outside and enjoy the snow, then come inside and drink hot chocolate. After awhile the cold gets annoying and I want the summer heat back. But I’m one of the fortunate ones who gets all four seasons… and gets them hard. This is what I’m talking about:

Monday: 70 Degrees, sunny.

Tuesday: 55 Degrees, tornadoes.

Wednesday: 60 Degrees, sunny but windy.

Thursday: 42.8 Degrees, cloudy, getting sick from the sudden temperature changes.

Friday: 30 Degrees, sunny.

Saturday: 20 Degrees, snowstorm, dying of pneumonia from the cold.

Time to pack my bags and move to Cali!

Okay, that might have been a little exaggerated, but that’s what it feels like.

As much as I hate all the sporadic temperature changes, it’s nice to be able to experience all four seasons. I couldn’t imagine a winter without snow. That seems so unreal to me. Which makes the think of the song that goes “I’m dreaming of a white Christmas”. I don’t really have to dream of a white Christmas. It has always been a thing.

I love snow. I love building snowmen, having snowball fights, making snow angels, and simply watching the snow fall onto the ground while sitting in my warm house. But, I DO NOT like the cold weather. I’m a little 100 pound girl. I have absolutely no fat on my body to keep me warm. So most of the winter I can’t feel my fingers or toes. I have a space heater in my room because it’s too cold for me. Even thinking about the cold makes me cold. Being cold is a small price to pay when you get to wake up in the morning to a winter wonderland.

This year will be the first time Smokey, my 10 month old kitten will get to see snow. It snowed here once this year, a week before Thanksgiving. He got to see it. The snow didn’t stick to the ground, or last very long, but he looked so cute looking at it.

Ain’t he just the cutest little thing?
