Tornadoes in December?

When most people think of December, they think of snow, Christmas, winter, cold weather and pretty winter scenery. When people in Illinois think of December, now they get to think of tornadoes.

Yep. Exactly. Yesterday, December 1st, 2018, there were multiple tornadoes all over the area. Just last Sunday we were under a blizzard warning. A warm front came in, melted all the snow and next thing you know we were under a tornado warning.

Tornadoes in December?

As far as I know, only one of the tornadoes that touched down was extremely damaging and it was in Taylorville. I don’t really know how far away that is from me but I haven’t heard of any fatalities, so that’s a very good sign.

Around my area we got a few funnel clouds but I don’t think anything major happened. My parents, Matt and I were watching the news and it said my town had funnels appearing near it. Holy anxiety attack. I wasn’t having it. I had Keigan calling me, screaming at me to get into the basement because he saw one and didn’t want me to die.

With all that happening we were pretty confused. Welcome to Illinois where you can experience all four seasons in a matter of days. I have all my Christmas decorations set up and instead of looking out my window and seeing a winter wonderland I see funnel clouds. That’s a first. I remember a few years ago there was a tornado outbreak in November but I can’t ever remember anything happening in December.

Now I’m hearing there’s a snowstorm coming in from Iowa to bring us some snow. I woke up and it was in the 40’s but the temperature has been steadily dropping all morning. Maybe it’ll snow today. Who knows in Illinois. I’m going to end up getting sick from the temperature fluctuating so much.
