Sound of Rain: Calming or Annoying?

Rain. It keeps the grass green, makes bodies of water flood and prevents me from going outside.

I think it can be a mixture of calming and annoying.

During a cloudy fall day and I’m snuggled up with a warm blanket, fuzzy socks, and a cup of hot chocolate while watching The Nightmare Before Christmas (Best movie ever by the way), and it just so happens to start raining, I’d find it calming and relaxing. It makes everything peaceful. Or during the summer if I’m writing or editing videos it helps me concentrate more.
I love the smell after it rains too. When everything is wet and the birds start chirping again, the wind isn’t blowing, and the sun starts to come out again. That’s when I come alive. Mind refreshing. Then when I’m trying to sleep and it starts lightly raining. The sound of rain hitting my window helps me fall asleep. Unless there’s tornadoes or thunder… then it’s panic attack time.

Other times I find the rain pretty annoying. For example, on the rare occasion where I wanna go outside and so something with my life and I walk outside and it’s raining. Or when I’m driving and it’s raining so hard not even the windshield wipers can save me and my anxiety is screaming “You’re going to die!” then I start going 30mph under the speed limit because I don’t wanna die for once. Eventually I start drowning in a pool of my own sweat and have to pull over to wait for the rain to stop falling from the sky. I wish I was exaggerating.

So I guess it depends on my mood and the season. I especially love rain in the fall, but in the summer it can stay away if I’m trying to do something. In the end, it’s water. It’s important. I don’t know.

  1. I feel the same way about rain as you! It’s a love hate relationship lol. Have you ever experienced a tornado?! I haven’t. I love the rain though, it helps me sleep too

    1. I live in tornado alley haha I see and hear about plenty tornadoes a year. I haven’t personally seen one, because every time one came I would get scared and hide. But I’ve seen funnel clouds and we’ve had some pretty close calls
